Alma Rowland

Alma Mae Rowland, 92, of Petersburg passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Born September 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Emil Vaughan and Exonie Virginia Creasy, and was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Howard Rowland.

Alma was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School Secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Happy Day Group at Wesley and enjoyed making pies and cookies for the church Bizarre. Every Christmas, she would make dozens of every kind of cookie to share, and received the nickname, “The Cookie Lady”.

An avid gardener, Alma enjoyed spending time taking care of her flowers and would also take classes for ceramics and sewing. She loved eating at Wendy’s with her husband and grandchildren and would also meet up with other church members there.  She enjoyed vacations with family and friends, especially to Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas. Her life was made full with great neighbors, family and friends and she will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her son, Charles Rowland II (Katie Loebman); daughter, Lisa Jacobs (Scott); grandchildren, Lauren Jackson, Austin Jackson, Brian Rowland (Catie), Darin Rowland (Leslye); great-grandchildren, Rosie Rowland, Clara Rowland, Addison Rowland; and other extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
