Alvin Martin

Alvin Glenn Martin, 49, of Chesterfield, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January, 4, 2017. Born in West Virginia, on September 6, 1967, he was the son of the late Terry Glenn Martin and the late Avis Jean Higgins. Alvin was a very active member in his church, Calvary Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. Alvin enjoyed singing in the choir, helping to coach the basketball team, and studying scripture. He aspired to become a preacher one day. Alvin was a generous and kind person who helped his family, friends, and neighbors with any number of odd jobs. He is survived by his grandmother, Mildred Virginia Alkire of Chesterfield; his son, Brian Keith Martin and his wife, Monica of Colonial Heights; his daughter, Amber Joy Martin of Prince George; his son and daughter's mother April Lynn Cone of Prince George; his sister, Penny Clark of Hopewell and her children Adam Casey and Tiffany Parham; his brother, Bryon Lee Martin of Chesterfield and his daughter Crystal Martin; his uncle, Ricky Martin and his wife Carol of Chesterfield and their children Amanda and Ricky Martin Jr. and his wife Bree; and his uncle, Jimmy Higgins of West Virginia. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church, 17001 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. The family is being served by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory.
