Ann Y. Gay, 88, of Prince George, Virginia, entered her eternal resting place with the Lord on Friday, December 8, 2023. She was born on January 7, 1935, in Petersburg, Virginia, to the late Lucy P. Yancey and Roy A. Yancey.  She spent seventy wonderful years married to the love of her life, the late Melvin E. Gay, and was considered to be the heart of the family. She is survived by her son, Michael W. Gay (Diane) and daughter, Donna G. Edwards (Tim). She is also survived by three grandchildren, Amanda Corrigan (Eric), Ashley Elder (Ricky) and Jeremy Nugent, eight great-grandchildren, Gabrien Elder, Caleb Elder, Declan Elder, Scarlett Corrigan, Jasper Corrigan, Jet Corrigan, Sybil Corrigan, and Evie Ann Nugent. Ann is also survived by four step-grandchildren, Faith Rebecca Driggers (Jody), Charity Burnett (James), David Edwards (Nancy) Seth Edwards (Jing), and seven step great-grandchildren, Judah Edwards, Hazel Edwards, Ty Driggers, Randy Driggers, Hope Driggers, Leah Burnett, and Marielle Burnett, as well as her niece Marla Fleming (Tony).  Ann retired from her profession as an orthodontic assistant working for both Dr. Lewis and Dr. Adams through the years. Ann loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was very active in her church where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher.  She also had a tremendous love for her family, and was happiest when spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her interests included traveling, reading, and cooking- for which she was well known. Ann would be described as a never- wavering Christian with a sweet disposition and a caring nature.   

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Swift Creek Baptist Church, 18510 Branders Bridge Road Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.  Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
