Anne Dix Chaney

November 21, 1942 — September 25, 2025

North Chesterfield

Anne Dix Chaney “Gaw”, 82, of North Chesterfield passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Anne was preceded in death by her mother and father, Margaret Thomas Dix and Theodore J. Dix, Sr.; and her beloved son, David Ray Chaney.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Anne will be remembered for her boundless love, creativity, and devotion to those whose lives she touched.

Anne was a proud and dedicated member of the Eastern Star, where she served with honor as a Past Worthy Matron. Her service reflected her deep commitment to community and fellowship, values she carried into every aspect of her life.

A woman of many talents, Anne was an accomplished seamstress. She poured her heart into her crochet, knitting, cross-stitch, and needlepoint, crafting timeless keepsakes for family and friends. Her love of arts and crafts extended to beautiful floral arrangements that brightened countless homes and occasions.

Anne was also the ultimate "Team Mom." Whether on the sidelines of her children’s or grandchildren’s sports teams, she was a constant source of encouragement and support. Her warmth extended far beyond her own family—embracing many other children who came to know and love her as their own.

The kitchen was another place where Anne’s gifts shined. Known for her pecan pie, lasagna, chicken salad, and many other specialties, she delighted in bringing people together around her table. Each dish she made was seasoned with the same love and care that defined her life.

Affectionately known as “Gaw,” Anne was the heart of her family. She treasured her role as grandmother, not only to her own grandchildren but to the many children who were blessed to know her as “Gaw.” Her presence was a source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love.

Anne’s legacy is one of kindness, creativity, and devotion. Her life was a beautiful example of generosity and grace, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Claiborne “Clay” L. Chaney; three children, Michael B. Chaney (Cheryl), Cheryl C. Adams (Daryle), and Audrey Deanne Jones (Mike); six grandchildren, Shane Burnette (Lindsey), Brian Burnette (Bobbie), Erin Madison (Josh), Kelley Davis (Trevor), Lauren Perreault (Ian Schmit), and Christopher Perreault; nine great-grandchildren, Brady Burnette, Campbell Burnette, Chaney Burnette, Roewyn Burnette, Hallie Madison, Georgia Madison, Anne Claiborne Davis, M.J. Madison, and another great-grandson on the way; sister, Sylvia Gillenwater; and many other loving relatives and friends.
