Arthur L. Henderson 1942 – 2024
Arthur was born in a time when the world was at war and lived through decades of change and prosperity for his country, which continue to this day. He lived proudly as a naval spouse creating a lifestyle in which he could follow his beloved literary pursuits.
Arthur was a single child born to Thomas L. Henderson, a Naval Mechanic and Dorthy Crumpler Henderson on March 29, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia. His childhood was interrupted by the effects of polio which followed him throughout his life. Despite this he led a mostly normal, happy and productive early life. He was a graduate of Norview High School and Old Dominion College with postgraduate work at the University of Virginia where he met and married the love of his life Rebecca Ann Robertson, who was studying on a navy scholarship. It was her career in the Navy which led them across the country and back, serving in many assignments from California to Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. where she retired as a Navy Captain after 30 years. They lived and loved together throughout these years and many to follow.
Art and Becky developed a book business, buying and selling Science Fiction almost exclusively and attending regional conventions all over the country for over 40 years. These gatherings led to lifelong friendships within the book community which continue until this day.
Arthur being an only child led to a limited extended family, a fact that was also corrected with his marriage to Rebecca. Her being one of five children led to his becoming Uncle Art many times over and later Great Uncle and even Great, Great Uncle most recently.
After their years of Military Service, they returned to the family home place where they built their retirement home in Chesterfield Va. living there until his death.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca Robertson Henderson, dear friends and all the extended Robertson and Mitchell family members in numbers too numerous to mention.
He will be forever loved and his memory a treasure to all who knew him!
