Barbara Boykin

Barbara Kay Boykin, 78, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022. Born on November 24, 1943, in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Edward Spencer Vaughan Jr. and Marjaurie Crank Vaughan. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Spencer Boykin, and brother, Thomas Edward Vaughan.

Barbara was a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, serving as the church hostess, youth department leader, and singing in the choir. She retired as an administrative assistant with Chesterfield County social services after many dedicated years. She was in the Preceptor of Beta Lambda Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and a member of Matoaca Women’s Club.

She is survived by her loving husband, George William Boykin; daughter, Shannon Boykin Bumgardner (Benjamin Swift); grandson, Gabriel Seth Powers; granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Bumgardner (Tucker Dawson); brother, Col. Robert Willard Vaughan Ret U.S. Army (Kathie); and numerous cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Road Chester, Virginia 23836. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
