Betsy Wooding Nuckols 53, of Petersburg, Virginia died May 7, 2013. She is survived by her loving companion Ben Norwood and her sister Birdie Jean Nuckols (husband James Corr) of the Richmond area. Betsy is also survived by a niece Denise Madar of Alexandria, VA; two nephews Eric Nuckols of Centreville, VA and Daniel Nuckols of Roanoke, VA; and five grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents John Roland Nuckols and Birdie Wooding Nuckols and her brothers John R. Nuckols, Jr., and West W. Nuckols. In addition, Betsy was survived by her four-legged children "Rex" the dog and "Tika/Spot" the cat. Born October 15, 1959 in Lynchburg, VA, Betsy graduated from Gretna High School and received her BA from William and Mary College. After college, she traveled abroad to multiple countries in Europe. She also traveled around Asia while teaching English in Japan for four years. She later attended Ohio State University doing course work for a Masters in Philosophy. Although she worked many different jobs after college, she seemed to find her real niche in her current job working as a Unit Secretary (Intensive Care Unit) at Southside Regional Medical Center. The combination of caring medical professionals, a supportive environment and challenging work were the perfect fit for her. Those who knew Betsy were blessed to have known the gentlest, purest of souls. She was your "good self" and she brought it out in others. She had the sweetness you desired and in return, you wished for her your toughness to protect her from the pain life could inflict. God must have loved "His angel with the golden halo of curls" too much to have called her home so soon. She will be forever missed by those she has left behind.
