Betty Jane Yancey, 80, of South Chesterfield, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022. She was born in Chesterfield County on July 22, 1941 to the late William “Nat” and Eunice Yancey and attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Betty devoted her life to the education of children. She served as an elementary school teacher in Fairfax for 35 years and also served as the head of the children’s department of her church in Fairfax. She was preceded in death by her great-nephew, Justin Hunter Yancey. She is survived by brother, William “Bill” N. Yancey, Jr. (Ellen); nephews, David W. Yancey (Grace) and Mark A. Yancey (Sonya); niece, Andrea Yancey Kurtz (Mark); great-nieces and nephews, David W. Yancey, Jr., Brian C. Yancey (Lisa), Desiree Cumbea-Hailey, Matthew A. Yancey (Megan), Jacob A. Yancey, Nicole J. Yancey, Jessica E. Kurtz, and Jason M. Kurtz; and great-great-nephew, Paxton A. Yancey. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Blandford Cemetery, 319 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org/donate).
