Charles "Jumbo" Anderson, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 14, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Ettrick, Virginia on November 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas and Laura Anderson.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he bravely fought for his country. He was a master carpenter and after returning from the war, Charles began his career at Continental Can Company, where he worked for 35 and a half years. Even after retiring, Charles continued to work with his hands, fixing and tinkering with lawn mowers in his spare time.
He was a man of great integrity, a hard worker, and a true patriot who loved his country and his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby Anderson; daughters, Patsy Gwinn (Arnold), Linda Hopkins (Beryl), Nancy Anderson; five grandchildren, Chip, Matthew Cates, Tiffanie, Christian and Angelica Blank; and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Southlawn Memorial Park.
