Charles Lewis Moore Jr “Charlie” of Amelia went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday April 26, 2023, after a courageous almost year long battle with occupational pancreatic cancer. He was born in Petersburg, VA on July 21, 1951. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Pamela McFarland Moore; and his dad, John D Dabney.

He was survived by his two sons, John Thomas Moore and wife, Dara, Joshua James Moore and wife, Dana. The loves of his life were his four grandchildren, first born and partner in crime, Payton Elizabeth Moore, his dearly loved twins, Landon Thomas Moore and Avery Elizabeth Moore, his newest little baby, Ella James Moore; his mother, that Cajun woman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Charlotte Marie (LaBeaux) Dabney; sisters, Connie Cleaton (Raymond), Brenda Hubbard (John), and Charlotte Dabney Goins (Brian – his brother from a different mother from Galax, VA). As life was getting on Charlie met a wonderful lady, Betty Jo Townsend, and while their relationship was cut short, they shared a special love that will live on.

Charlie joined the Petersburg Fire Department on June 26, 1974, as a tailboard rider, he always stated this was “best job in the world”. He went through the ranks and ultimately spent over five years as Chief Fire Marshal, Investigator.

Charlie loved living out in the country and growing a big garden every summer to share with friends and family. He always looked forward to his annual trips to the F-100 Super National Show in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. As well as Nags Head, NC to fish with his sons. Charlie had an enthusiasm for fire service that is rare. He volunteered for the Matoaca Volunteer Fire Department for years and even served as District Chief.
