Major Charles Patrick ("Pat") McChargue, USAR (Retired), 87, of Prince George, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, after a long and full life.
Born on September 19, 1939, in Tallahassee, Florida, Pat was the son of the late Quinion Delvin McChargue and Francis Virginia (Lamb) McChargue and oldest of their seven children. Major "Mac" McChargue proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve for 24 years, a distinguished career that included deployments to Germany, Korea, a tour of duty during the Vietnam Conflict, and service in Thailand. Following his military retirement in 1985, his commitment to national security continued as a civilian, dedicating another 20 years of service to the Department of Defense. Beyond his distinguished professional service and deep love for his country, Pat will be remembered by all who knew him for his profound integrity, resilience, quiet strength, and unshakeable dedication to his loved ones. He was truly the bedrock of his large and loving family.
Pat shared a beautiful life with his cherished wife, Kiem Thi (Nguyen), his beloved of 53 years. His devotion to her was absolute, and he continued to love her and consider her well-being until his very last moments.
Along with Kiem, he is survived by his children: Michael Anthony McChargue, Thomas Delvin McChargue (Sandra), Petina Neely (Russell), Susan Stroupe (Stephen, Dec'd), Charles Stephen McChargue, and Charles Patrick McChargue, Jr. (Tiha). He is also survived by his siblings, Virginia Irma McChargue (Williams, Yearty), May Bethany McChargue (Tucker), and Kathryn Inez McChargue.
Pat is further survived by Kiem’s closely knit family, who were a central and deeply involved part of his life: Theresa Johnson (Bob), Le Nguyen and Le's daughter Linda Quinones; Kelly Altierie (Peter), and Phuong Lessard (Jeff), as well as two brothers. Pat’s legacy also lives on through his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Quinion and Virigina, and his three brothers David Dewill, Joseph Franklen , and Michael George.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
