Charlotte Pearson Fleming

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlotte Pearson Fleming, who passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Otis Blackwell and Florence Medlin Pearson, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Linwood Fleming, Sr.; son, Charles Linwood Fleming, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Gettings, Ada Flippen, Arneta Haddock, Elna Baugh, Eva Woodfin; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Fleming, Sol Fleming, Jr., Howard Fleming, Ralph Fleming, and James Tasker “JT” Fleming.

Charlotte was a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.

She served diligently as a secretary at the Petersburg Health Department for the many Medical Directors over the years before retiring after 28 years of dedicated service.

In her retirement, Charlotte found great joy in spending time with her family, especially her favorite granddaughter, Meagan Barnes.

Charlotte also enjoyed participating in the Colonial Heights Flower Garden Group, where she shared her love of nature and gardening with others. 

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Lynn Fleming; son, Otis Jeffrey Fleming; beloved granddaughter, Meagan Barnes and husband, Casey; sisters-in-law, Alma Walker, Mildred Morrison, Irma Gard and husband, Ferrell, Ann Spence and husband, Bill; brothers-in-law, William “Bill” Fleming and wife, Martha; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024 in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Ave, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Friday from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
