Christine Ann Metcalf, 79, of Spring Grove, VA, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 10, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Anthony E. Mannina and Dorothy A. Mannina. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, James S. Metcalf.
She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy K. Metcalf and Stacey R. Turner; son-in-law, Virgil G. Turner; granddaughters, Morgan R. Turner and Meghan E. Turner; her great-granddaughter, Ava R. Wilkins; brother and sister-in-law, Steven A. and Virginia Mannina; sister-in-law, Gale Metcalf; nephews, Martin Mannina, William S. Metcalf, Dorse Taylor, Robert S. Metcalf, Jonathan B. Metcalf; niece, Shannon R. Williams; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews.
Christine attended Longwood University, where she majored in music and nurtured a lifelong love for the art. She was a talented pianist and dulcimer player, and during her college years, she enjoyed performing in The Common Glory, an outdoor symphonic drama in Williamsburg, VA. In the 1980s, she also shared her gift of song with the Petersburg Chorale Society. Christine proudly embraced life as an Army wife, traveling and living in many places across the United States and overseas. She had a deep appreciation for history and was a Burgess Member of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where she cherished Williamsburg’s rich past. She supported various causes and organizations, especially The Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota. In her free time, Christine enjoyed crocheting, reading, and a good glass of wine, and she was known for making lists for just about everything. She also loved playing slot machines and blackjack, especially alongside her husband, as well as shooting skeet and fishing with him. Above all, Christine deeply loved her family and treasured every moment spent with them.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
