Claude Calvin Rowland, 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Claude began his career at the age of 18 with Ashland Chemicals (Hercules), where he worked faithfully as an electrician until his retirement. His strong work ethic and steady presence were hallmarks of his life. During his early years at the plant, he proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Italy before returning home to continue his career. His decades of service to both his country and his workplace reflected his commitment and integrity. Outside of work, Claude embraced life’s simple joys. He was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a game, especially when his beloved Washington Redskins (Commanders) were playing. Sundays in the fall were often reserved for cheering on his team. He also found great peace in fishing and treasured time spent at the beach. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina held a special place in his heart, and he made it a point to visit at least once each year, creating memories that will be cherished by those who accompanied him. Claude inherited his love of gardening from his mother, a passion he nurtured throughout his life. Many summer days were spent tending to vegetables and flowers, carefully planting and cultivating his garden with pride. After retirement, he discovered a new passion in woodworking. Countless evenings were spent in his garage workshop, where he meticulously crafted projects with patience and precision, ensuring each piece met his high standards of perfection. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sallie Rowland; his beloved wife, Kay Rowland; his brother, Gene Rowland; his sister, Janie King; his brother-in-law, Jack King; and his companion, Judy Fechino. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Candy Lynn Williams (John); his brother, Joe Rowland (Gale); his nieces, Lisa Stockner (Jason) and Sharon Ealey; his nephews, Dennis Rowland and David Rowland (Jill); his sister-in-law, Mitzi Rowland; his devoted caregiver, Ruby Goodson; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will remember his steady presence, quiet strength, and loving heart. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Mount Pleasant Baptist Church 3110 Greenwood Ave Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
