Collis Edward Wells, 76, passed away on April 3, 2026 at his residence in Taylor, Mississippi.

He was born on March 15, 1950 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Sarah Elizabeth Royster and Harold Lee Wells.

A true lover of the outdoors, Collis found joy in any kind of hunting and fishing. He was a member of a hunt club in Virginia for several years before moving further south. While he always aimed for the prized game at the end of his hunting venture, his true joy came from being with friends who shared his passion and teaching his grandchildren how to cast a line.

Collis always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In particular, he loved involving his family and friends in some sort of game. Whether it was horseshoes, cards or a round of scat golf, he was always ready to make a friendly wager and keep the game a spirited one.

Collis proudly served his country after being drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam era. His sense of duty and courage shaped the way he approached every aspect of his life. He was keenly aware of the needs of others and always willing to lend a hand.

After his service, Collis began a long and dedicated career as a lineman for Bell Atlantic, later Verizon, where he worked for 39 years. His work ethic, dependability, and commitment were admired by his colleagues and community alike.

A devoted sports fan, Collis enjoyed watching any sporting event he could find. He was a proud Ole Miss Rebel, and enjoyed cheering on the Rebs at Vaught Hemingway or Swayze field. He was also a lifelong Washington Redskins fan, who rarely missed a game and was always ready to discuss their latest season.

Collis will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his devotion to his family and friends, and his love for the outdoors. His legacy will live on in the memories he created and the lives he touched.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Wells of Taylor, MS; daughters, Jenny Wells of Colonial Heights, VA, Brandy Damron (Steve) of Disputanta, VA, and Ashley Kizler (Stanley Szczelaszczyk) of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Gabrielle Mirro, Harrison Damron, and Brooke Edmonds (C.J.) of Prince George County, VA, and Stanley Szczelaszczyk of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Marvin Wells (Betty Sue) of Virgilina, VA and Harold Wells (Vickie) of Colonial Heights, VA; one sister, Elizabeth Brandt (Carl) of Colonial Heights, VA; and three great-grandchildren.

All friends are invited to a Celebration of Life hosted by the family from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the Colonial Heights Community Center (157 Roanoke Ave).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in memory of Collis be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation (https://dogood.t2t.org/Donate). Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
