Curtis Edward Wheeler

Curtis Edward Wheeler, 79, of N. Dinwiddie passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023. Born June 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Howard Edward and Daine Frances Wheeler, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Ann Wheeler.

Curtis was a United State Army Veteran, who served during the Korean Conflict. He had a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in physics and retired after many years of service with Reynold Metals Research and Development Department.  His passion was farming and looking out for his animals and his produce.

Curtis' love for his family knew no bounds. As a father, he embraced the joys and challenges of parenthood, always providing unwavering support and guidance to his daughter. He instilled in her the values of honesty, integrity, and hard work, which have become the guiding principles in their lives. Curtis was also a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for them was evident in the twinkle in his eyes and the warmth of his smile.

He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Wheeler Strotman; grandchildren, Samuel Curtis Overfelt and wife, Celisa, Samantha Overfelt Kelly and husband Gary, Ashley Ann Strotman and boyfriend, Joseph Booth; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Thomas Wheeler and wife, Vickie, Robert “Bob” L. Wheeler and wife, Carla; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the funeral home.
