Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Cynthia Diane Travis, 63, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on September 15, 2026, following a long battle with illness and pain.

Those who knew Cynthia before illness took so much from her will remember a woman who was happy, vibrant, and truly the life of the party. She had a magnetic presence and a way of drawing people toward her wherever she went. She was giving, heartfelt, and loved deeply.

During her time at Riverview on the Appomattox Health & Rehab Center, Cynthia made many close friends and found purpose in serving as a resident advocate. Even through her own struggles, she cared about the people around her and valued the friendships she made there.

Above all, Cynthia leaves behind a family who will carry her memory with them always. She is survived by her three daughters, Christina Compton and her husband, Eric; Jessica Francis; and Samantha Marshall and Thomas Wells; and her six grandchildren, Ryan Compton, Landon Grogan, Michael Francis, Carter Compton, Emma Marshall, and Teagan Spence.

Cynthia fought a long and difficult battle with illness and endured more pain than those who loved her wished she ever had to bear. Her family finds comfort in knowing that battle is now over. She can finally rest easy, free from pain.

Those who loved Cynthia will remember her not for the illness that marked the later years of her life, but for the woman she was—the life of the party, the magnetic presence in the room, the giving heart, and the friend who was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with Chaplain Ed Kross officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home on Saturday. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
