David Lance Grammer
May 12, 1953 - March 20, 2026
David “Bubba” Lance Grammer passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on March 20, 2026. David was born May 12, 1953 in Chester, Virginia to David Evans and Beulah Mae Grammer, who precede him in death. He was blessed with great love in his life, including his devoted wife and partner of almost 40 years, Brenda G. Grammer (King); his only child and pride and joy, daughter Lydia Eve (Grammer) Klinger; his grandchildren Jon and Julia, who always brought huge smiles, his signature deep laughs, and a twinkle to his eye; and stepdaughter Tanya Ploticia (Scott), his partner in crime on many occasions. He is also survived by his siblings Elaine (Jack) Blackmon, Bruce (Carol) Grammer, Rick Grammer, and Carol (Ricky) Martin; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom he adored. He is also preceded in death by his best friend of many years, Gregory Ames, and many other friends that he cherished throughout his life.
David spent many years in industrial construction and construction management, working since the early 1990s with Brown and Root Industrial Services at Dupont Spruance in Richmond, Virginia, retiring as a contract administrator in 2020. A graduate of Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia, David was also a huge fan of the University of Virginia, his daughter’s alma mater. He spent many years cheering on the Virginia Cavaliers football team from his season ticket seats. While the team may have had ups and downs, David’s loyalty to them never waivered.
Bubba believed that life was meant to be lived to the fullest, and was well known for his ability to make friends everywhere he went. No one who met him ever forgot him, and he knew how to make people from all walks of life feel seen and respected. He will be missed more than he would have ever believed, but the gifts he left in the hearts of those who loved him will carry his legacy for many years to come. We know he will be so happy to have that first heavenly Budweiser with his friend Greg, and sit around the kitchen table talking for hours with Mama and Pop once again.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for spring 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Virginia’ Alumni Association’s McIntire First Generation Scholarship, which supports students who are the first in their families to attend college at UVA.
