David Armstead Simmons, 45, of Colonial Heights passed away too soon on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born on January 15, 1981, David was the son of Brenda Aldridge Simmons and the late Thomas Wayne Simmons. He was also preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
David spent over 20 years in the cabinetry industry. At the time of his passing, he was working as the Maintenance Manager for GoldOller Real Estate Investments.
Outside of his work life, David was a big-time sports enthusiast. If there was a game on, David was watching. This was especially true if it involved his beloved Duke Blue Devils. His loyalty to Duke was immense, and his Cameron Crazie spirit was apparent in everything he did.
His love for the game extended to the sidelines of the local gym, where David enjoyed coaching his son’s youth basketball team. However, David’s "retirement" from coaching is where his legend truly grew.
Once he stepped down from coaching, David transitioned seamlessly into his second calling as the world’s most passionate (and occasionally inappropriate) sideline talker. Whether he was offering constructive feedback to a referee or engaging in spirited debates with opposing coaches, David made sure his point was known.
David is survived by his cherished children, McKenna Edwards-Simmons, David Armstead Simmons, Jr., Jessica Main, Zachery Main; mother, Brenda Aldridge Simmons; sister, Cherie Simmons McTiernan and wife, Julie; brother, John Edward Simmons and wife, Amanda; second mom, Jeanette Aldridge; lifelong best friend, Jason Riggins; other extended family members, and many friends.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
