Doris Humphries Vincent, 97, of Chesterfield, VA, passed into the hands of our Lord on Wednesday evening, June 10, 2026, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Formerly a member of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church, Doris H. Vincent was a retired widow of former Army Veteran A. Earl Vincent, who was a long-time employee of Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, Petersburg, VA, as a unionized Pipefitter and Steamfitter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, A. Earl Vincent, in 1987; her parents, James Lester Humphries, Sr. and Lennie Lou Allen Humphries; siblings, James Lester Humphries, Jr., Evelynne Krauskopf, Vivian Jean Fowler, Barbara Lanier, and Elaine Lorenzen; her daughters, Susan L. Vincent and Patricia V. Phelps; and her granddaughter, Gina Rae Martin.

She is survived by her children, Edward E. Vincent, Dana V. Bland (F. Benny Bland, III.), and Janet V. Martin; grandchildren, Rachel E. Bland and Oliver James “Jesse” Martin, III.; sister, Carol H. Jeter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris completed her education at Thomas Dale High School of Chester, VA, following her move to the area with her family at age 12. Just before the graduations of her children, she completed her own final year of education by certification. Doris met and married A. Earl while they both worked in Colonial Heights, following his military service in World War II. During their marriage, including 5 years into his retirement, many trips were made to North Carolina’s Outer Banks with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and crafter- often sewing, quilting, crocheting and needle crafting. Doris and A. Earl loved going out dancing and bowling together in his doubles league. She was an enthusiastic audience to her husband and family playing music. Doris was an ardent fan of Thomas Dale football, attending most of the home games. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her devoted sister, Carol Jeter, of Sandston, VA, her son-in-law, Rudy Phelps, her neighbor, Wayne Vaughan, and relative, Glen Wells, for their loving and faithful attention through the years. We would also like to thank her long-time physician, Dr. Irshad Ahmed, M.D. of Colonial Medcare, Colonial Heights, VA, and his dedicated staff, for taking such good care of her during her lifetime. The family would also like to thank all of the nurses, aides, and social workers at Gentiva Hospice of Richmond, VA for helping us with her care during the last months of her life. In addition, the family would like to thank the nurses, occupational therapists and physical therapists, etc. of At Home Harmony and Adoration Home Health for making life easier in her home care journey during the past few years. Their help and advice was priceless and lessened our burden.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester, VA.
