Dorothy Anne Porter Stevens

On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, a choir of angels came and took Anne Porter Stevens to meet her beloved husband, Bill, to their Heavenly Home.

Anne was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church for the last 25 years and Wesley United Methodist Church from childhood to 1994. She was an organist in the area churches for 50 years and loved the Lord. She also served a term as President of the Colonial Heights Federated Women’s Club and North Elementary PTA. She was a veracious reader and loved animals, having had both dogs and cats in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Stevens, Jr.; son, Kenneth Stevens; mother and father, Mary and Andrew Porter; one brother, William Porter; a dear sister, Louise Porter Vaughan; and her mother-in-law, Kathleen Simmons.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Cynthia Stevens Denny; one brother, Andrew B. Porter, Jr. (Doris); brother-in-law, Robert Simmons (Merry) of North Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Simmons Vest (Lloyd) of Bracey, Virginia. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Lauren Denny Roberts, Lindsay Anne Denny, Blake Christopher Denny, Alexa Stevens Phillips, and Gabriella Stevens Mack. She had four great-grandsons, Kaleb Contreras, Riley and Desmond Phillips, and Brayden Roberts. She had four nieces and six nephews.

Anne was blessed with loving and dedicated caretakers – her daughter, Cindy, Patsy Mann, Jeanne Martin, and Val Valentine. In her final days, she received care and comfort from Hospice of VA. We thank all of them for their compassionate care which enabled her to stay in her home.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.
