Douglas Brain
Bannister
Mar 29, 1962 — Oct 23, 2026
Colonial Heights
Douglas B. Bannister was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by dedication, service, and a deep passion for the things he loved. Douglas proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and spent many years working in the Department of Corrections. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a strong commitment to his work and to serving others. He was also a passionate diving instructor, a role that meant so much more to him than just a job. Diving was his life, his passion, and something he truly loved. It brought him purpose and happiness, and it was a part of who he was.
Douglas leaves behind a legacy of service, passion, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Bannister Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Rhonda Bannister; his son, Brian Osborne (Amber); his grandchildren, Kyle and Emma Osborne; his brother, William Bannister Jr.; and his mother-in-law, Oma Caudill and aunt Helen Stelle. He also leaves behind two dear friends, David Bowman and Damieon Wayne, whom he thought the world of and held close to his heart.
Douglas will be remembered for his years of service, his love of diving, and the dedication he brought to everything that mattered to him. His passion was more than a career; it was a way of life. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will never be forgotten.
