Elfriede Wimmer Sharpe, age 89, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026. Born in Germany on November 17, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Katharina Steeb Wimmer, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Walter.

Elfriede spent her early life in her homeland before falling in love with an American soldier. As a dedicated homemaker, Elfriede poured her heart into creating a welcoming home. She was an avid gardener, a talented cook, and enjoyed crafting. She was a fan of NASCAR, pulling for her favorite driver, Denny Hamlin, with full enthusiasm. Proud of her heritage, she remained an active and cherished member of her local German Social Club, where she shared traditions, laughter, and community with dear friends.

Together with her husband, she hit the open road on countless RV trips across the United States, alongside travel that took them to destinations all around the world.

Elfriede is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John William Sharpe, Jr.; sons, Thomas Wimmer, Denny Wimmer (Randy), John William Sharpe III (Jennifer); daughter, Melody Rodriguez; granddaughter, Mona Wimmer; and other extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, July 27, 2026 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.
