Elizabeth Louise Henshaw Schrum, 89, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, May 23, 2026. Elizabeth was born May 28, 1936 in Green County, TN to the late Ruby Cook Henshaw and Everett Henshaw. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 70 years John (Tooty) Schrum, Sr, son, John (Bubba) Schrum, Jr, grandson, Jason Schrum, brothers, John E. Henshaw, Everett Henshaw, and nephew Bernard (Butch) Eanes.
She leaves her survivors to cherish her memory, daughters, Janet Schrum, Donna Davis, daughter-in-law, Debbie Schrum, sisters, Margaret Moore (Horace), Bonnie Howard, brother, Doug Henshaw, grandchildren, Melissa Bernhard (Tripp), Abigail Fulgham (Brad Augustine), Amanda Davis, great-grandchildren, Brynn, Teagan, Eric, Shelby, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elizabeth married her childhood sweetheart at the age of 19. They built their life together and raised their three children on the family farm in Southern Chesterfield.
Family and friends will remember Elizabeth for her kindness, generosity, self-sacrificing attitude, comforting words of wisdom, hard work, good cooking, bedtime stories, singing old folk songs, homemade sweet pickles, and sharing vegetables from the garden with friends and family.
She was a faithful and devoted one of Jehovah’s Witnesses since March 1962 when she was baptized. Elizabeth read the Bible every day, lived by its principles and loved sharing what she read with the others.
A special thank you to Amedysis Hospice for five years of compassionate care. Special mention to Diana Schroeder, Tyrini Hutson, Christian, Lori, and Carrie Vaught.
A funeral service will be held at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. The family will welcome friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at the Schrum Family Cemetery.
