Emmett Leslie Harper, Sr., 82, of Chester, died Tuesday April 8, 2008 at Chippenham Medical Center. He was the son of the late L.B. and Jennie Smith Harper. Mr. Harper was a WW II. United States Navy veteran, and retired from Carrington and Michaux Tobacco Company, he was a member of the Chester United Methodist Church and Chester Civitan Club for over 36 years. Mr. Harper is survived by his wife, Linda M. Harper; children, Jeffrey G. Stovall and wife, Lorine of Fairfax, Stephanie S. Phillips and husband, Marshall of Chester, E. L. ‘Les' Harper, Jr. and wife, Naomi of Atlanta Georgia; grandchildren, Marie Grace Stovall, John Christian Thomas Stovall, M .Loudon Phillips, Kathryn McGraw Phillips, Eden Elizabeth Harper, and E. L. ‘Trey' Harper III; sister, Helen Morris of Hampton; two brothers, Rhyley W. Harper of Richmond, and Ray L. Harper of Mineral. A funeral service will take place Monday April 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Margaret Kutz and the Reverend Julian E. Hall officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday April 13, 2008 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Chester Civitan Club, 4900 Cool Spring Road, Chester, Virginia 23831 or Chester United Methodist Church Building Fund, 12132 Percival Street Chester, Virginia 23831.
