Evelyn Jean Benefield Street, 70, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Evelyn was born February 23, 1956, in Memphis, TN to the late James and Sylvia Benefield. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Johnny W. Street “John”; two daughters, Molly Davies-Street (Emily) of Raliegh, NC and Lauren Street Gray of Chesterfield; two granddaughters, Maci and Olivia Gray; two brothers, Rusty Benefield of Ripley, MS and Bobby Benefield of Pontotoc, MS; sister Amy Brock of Ripley, MS; and many other loving family and friends.
Evelyn moved to Ripley, Mississippi, at the start of high school and graduated from Ripley High School in 1974. She went on to attend Northeast Mississippi Junior College, where she earned certification as a respiratory therapist. She practiced for many years in Mississippi and Louisiana before devoting herself to raising her family as a full-time mother.
In 1975, Evelyn married John, and the couple settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where John began a long career with Ethyl Corporation. Their journey together took them to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, in 1990, back to Baton Rouge in 1993, and finally to Chesterfield, Virginia, in 1995, where Evelyn made her home for the rest of her life.
Together for more than fifty years, Evelyn and John shared a lifetime of experiences and traveled to many places. Her favorite destinations were Orange Beach and Pensacola Beach, where she cherished time with family and friends, including her “crazy sistas,” and at other seaside and mountain getaways alike.
Evelyn was a devoted mother to Lauren and Molly, teaching them life skills with love and compassion. She was immensely proud of them both. To her granddaughters, she was “Lolly,” and she doted on them with boundless love and adoration.
She found joy in gardening and cooking, especially alongside John. She was a member of Ironbridge Church. Her smile and humor will be missed until the day we are all reunited.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be announced at a later date in New York Cemetery in Ripley, MS.
