Evelyn "Evy" Gutierrez

Evelyn “Evy” Guevara Gutierrez, 79, of Prince George County, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 in Petersburg, Virginia. Born on January 17, 1943, in Manilla, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Pedro Baldomero Guevara Jr. and Elvira B. Vda. De Guevara. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo M. Gutierrez M.D., and her sister, Anicia G. Viray.

Evelyn attended the University of Santo Tomas College of Nursing, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1968. Evy retired as a Registered Nurse after many dedicated years of care and compassion served. She met and married her husband, Leo on September 23, 1972. In New York, NY. Having moved to Virginia in 1985, Evelyn and her family became parishioners to the Church of the Sacred Heart and has been a long-standing member for 37 years. She was devoted and dedicated to the Catholic faith, religiously practicing her faith in prayer to the Lord daily. Her favorite saint was St. Padre Pio, who “loved serving the Church and valued celebrating Mass more than any other Activity of Earth”.

She is survived by her daughter, Maria Evelina Gutierrez; sons, Eric Gutierrez (Shelly Gutierrez), Mark Gutierrez, and Luke Gutierrez; brother, Edgar B. Guevara; and grandchildren, Leo and Olivia Gutierrez.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 9300 Community Lane Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Interment will follow in the Church of the Sacred Heart cemetery beside the church. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
