Frances Lovell Carraway

March 19, 1950 — August 10, 2025

South Chesterfield

Frances Lovell Carraway, 75, of Chesterfield, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Born on March 19, 1950, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Paulett , and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Brock Carraway.

Frannie Carraway was a retired operator of the Reynolds Metals Corporation and worked there for many years doing multiple jobs including being a union representative. Frannie cherished her time at Reynolds and continued to try and keep tabs on her former co-workers after retirement.

A longtime resident of Chester, she and Eddie routinely grew a beautiful garden in the Summer. Frannie took great pride tending the garden and cutting the grass. They continued the gardening tradition on a smaller scale when they moved to North Carolina planting a small group of tomatoes in their flower bed every year. Frannie loved to cook and enjoyed baking - making a variety of pies with her signature Christmas fudge being a yearly tradition.

During their later years, Frannie and husband Eddie were able to spend time at their dream home located in Buxton, North Carolina. After some renovations to their retirement home, they built a beautiful fishing pier and were able to spend lots of time relaxing out on the pier. Many evenings you could find Frannie out at the end of the pier with Eddie and friends swatting off mosquitos and pulling in a fish. Frannie enjoyed the open air and sunsets on the Sound taking time and solace on the water.

Frannie left us almost exactly a year after losing her beloved husband, Eddie. Even after a period of declining health and up until the very end, Frannie never lost her wit or wry sense of humor. Frannie is survived by her Godson, Michael VanWyck many special friends and relatives. Her many friends, former co-workers and fishing buddies will miss her terribly. She was truly a unique individual.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025 with celebration of life to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
