Franklin Delano Boyce, 92, of Colonial Heights passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Born October 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Oscar Kenneth and Evelyn Mae Caddy Boyce. He was also preceded in death by all six of his siblings.

A man of integrity and dedication, Franklin answered the call of duty at a remarkably young age, enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served his country with honor for 22 years, specializing in the Medical Corps and ultimately retiring at the esteemed rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His military career was just the beginning of a lifelong mission to serve and care for others.

Upon returning to civilian life, Franklin brought his exceptional work ethic to Petersburg Hospital, beginning as an assistant administrator. His leadership and compassionate nature quickly pushed him forward, eventually leading him to become the Chief Executive Officer of John Randolph Hospital. Recognizing the deeper, long-term needs of his community, he proudly founded the John Randolph Hospital Foundation. His passion for community health and education continues to change lives today through the Franklin D. Boyce Scholarship.

Beyond his monumental professional and civic achievements, Franklin’s heart belonged entirely to his family. He was, above all else, a devoted family man who cherished every single moment spent with his loved ones. Whether gathering for holidays, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company, the time he shared with his family was his greatest treasure and the true measure of his success.

When he wasn't pouring his energy into his family or his community, Franklin could be found watching his Miami Dolphins take the field. He also loved to travel, creating countless memories with his family while exploring Pigeon Forge, relaxing on the shores of the Outer Banks, and soaking in the tropical paradise of Abaco, Bahamas.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 74 years, Elizabeth Rose Boyce; 4 children, Franklin D. Boyce, Jr. and wife, Gina Marie, John K. Boyce and wife, Susan, Janice B. Trevillian and husband, Jeffrey, Jim M. Boyce and wife, Rachel; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 in the Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.
