Gay Lynne (Goff) Kinney, passed away peacefully at home with her family and friends after succumbing to cancer. She was born on June 16, 1950 to Aubrey M. Goff and Marvin Rose Goff at Ft Meade, Maryland. She grew up in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Burgess High School and then pursed and obtained a business college degree.

She met and married her husband Arthur William “Bill” Kinney on a blind date, who asked her to marry him the first night they met. She said “No,” but accepted two weeks later and they married on July 2, 1971, and their 55th anniversary 13 July 2nd, 2026. She is survived her husband, Arthur; her daughter, Theresa Lyne Kinney; her son, Matthew William Kinney; three grandchildren, Caiden Kinney, Rilyn Kenny, and Kaylee Kinney; and brother, Gregory Wayne and wife, Connie Goff of Nashville, Tennessee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jeffery Alan Goff; grandson, Brian Kenny; and two stillborn children.

Gay Lynne was a member of Southside Baptist Church on Boydton Plank Road in Petersburg, Virgina, where she attended faithfully for over 23 years. Before that she was the pastor’s wife as her husband served as pastor of Crater View Baptist Church in Petersburg.

She loved her two dogs, Daisy and Peanut, and one cat Lilly, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading her Bible, and being around her grandchildren.

She often spoke of being with her Lord and Savior and spoke about her love for God openly.

She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. A funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Southside Baptist Church, 2007 Boydton Plank Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805 with Pastor Arthur Lands officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at church. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wedneday in Virginia Veteran Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, Virginia 23002.
