George William Pierson

George William Pierson, Sr., born in Wheeling, West Virginia February 20, 1948, raised in Clarington, Ohio, and resided in Chesterfield, Virginia passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of September 14, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Emch; his brothers, John and Kennon Pierson; his sister, Sara Smith; and his grandson, Russell “Rusty” Mack.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Cecile Lewis Pierson; his daughter, Edna “Lori” Mack (Michael); his son, George W. Pierson, Jr.; and his cherished granddaughters, Katherine “Katie” and Margaret “Maggie” Pierson. He is also survived by his sister, Beth Ann Baker; his brother-in-law, Claiborn “Pete” Lewis; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

George was an Army veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He also had a lifelong love of football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He shared that passion through decades of service to local athletics — coaching with Ettrick Youth Sports, officiating with the Virginia High School League, and announcing Matoaca High School football games. He also served as president of the Matoaca High School Athletic Booster Club, founded Matoaca Youth Wrestling, and played a key leadership role with Virginia USA Wrestling in the mid-1990s.

Family will receive friends on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with interment at 2:30 p.m. at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Prince George, Virginia 23835.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at ealvinsmall.com
