Retired Colonel George Neal Plocek (86) was called home by his Lord and Savior on March 23, 2026. Neal was born in Bishop, Texas in 1939 to George Joe and Alpha Boswell Plocek. Although his life and career took him to many places around the world, Neal always considered himself to be a proud Texan and Bishop to be his home. He attended Texas A& I College in Kingsville, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering. Neal furthered his education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, obtaining a Master of Science in Tertiary Oil Recovery. In 1963, Neal accepted a Reserve Commission through the ROTC in the United States Army. He dedicated over 28 years to serving his country as an officer in the Quartermaster Corps, ultimately attaining the rank of Colonel. His service included assignments in the Republic of Vietnam, West Germany, Belgium, the Republic of Korea, Greece, Turkey, Italy, NATO, and across the United States. Neal’s distinguished military career was recognized with medals such as the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Air Medal. He also earned Senior Parachute and Rigger badges. He retired as a Colonel, maintaining the bearing, character, and honor of a field grade officer throughout his life. Neal strived to maintain a close relationship with the Lord and served in various churches in various capacities. After he retired, he was honored to serve as a deacon for many years at his church in St. Louis. Neal was preceded in death by Carolyn Caddel Plocek, his wife of 53 years, and his beloved granddaughter, Suzanne Elizabeth.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Albrecht Plocek; his sons, David Plocek (Stacy) and Steven Plocek (Jennifer); and his cherished grandchildren, Zachary Plocek (Megan), Conley Plocek (Kacie), and Landry Plocek. After marrying Betty and moving to Virginia, Neal embraced and loved the new family he gained. He is also survived by Betty’s children Cindy Warriner (David), Beth Vaughn (David), Dee Weatherly, and 5 additional grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom he loved and adored. His celebration of life will take place Monday, March 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA. 23834.
