Gladys B. Chobanian, 91, of Prince George, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Born on October 19, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clark Smith and Berdette E. Raymer Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, CW4 (Ret.) Stephen Nazareth Chobanian; her son, Stephen A. Chobanian; her daughter, Julie C. Thomasson; and numerous other cherished family members.
Gladys was a longtime and devoted member of Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and treasured every moment shared with those she loved. She was especially known for her love of baking and the warmth and care she shared with family and friends through her homemade treats.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Laurie "Genie" Chobanian; her grandson, Stephen C. Chobanian and his wife, Pamela; her granddaughters, Ashley N. Johnson and her husband, Brandon, and Stephanie M. Chobanian; her great-grandsons, Elijah D. Johnson and Jeffrey N. Johnson; her loving sisters-in-law, Julie Colpo and Pauline Gruber; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at James Rivers Hospice for their extraordinary care of Mrs. Gladys in her time of need.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805 with her son-in-law Mr. Nelton Thomasson officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 3, 2026 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of. E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Army Quartermaster Foundation, P.O.
