Gloria Mae Doughty, 86, of N Dinwiddie, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brunswick County, Virginia on October 17, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Gauldin and Ocie Mae Gammon Gauldin. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kevin D. Doughty, and her eight siblings.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Marshall “Pete” E. Doughty; her sons, Timothy E. Doughty (Michelle), Jeff C. Doughty (Angie), and Chris Doughty; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and many other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Gloria was a devoted woman of faith and a longtime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hopewell, where she worshiped faithfully for over 40 years and cherished her Sunday School class and church family. She worked for 30 years in the cafeteria at Walnut Hill Elementary School, where she took great pride in cooking and serving meals to the children alongside her coworkers. An excellent cook, Gloria found joy in feeding others and was always happy to welcome someone to her table. Her love for God guided her life, and she remained steadfast in her faith. Above all, she deeply adored her husband and her sons, who were her greatest pride and joy, and she took great care in teaching them the values and skills they would carry through life. Known for her generous heart and desire to keep those around her happy, Gloria also enjoyed the simple pleasures of quiet moments in her sunroom, working crossword puzzles and watching the birds and squirrels gather at her feeders.
The family would like to give special thanks to Gloria’s nurses and care team with At Home Care Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S Crater Rd, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park’s Mausoleum, S Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
