Hugh Cahill

Hugh P. Cahill, age 91, of Colonial Heights, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friend on January 25th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Wilhelmine Krause Cahill for 59 years. Their son Patrick preceded him in death.

One of 15 children, Hugh was born in Lowell, Massachusetts to Marcella and Joseph Cahill on February 14th, 1931. He left his hometown at the young age of 17 to join the US Army. Hugh received his GED while serving. He proudly served his country for 22 years both in the US and abroad. He served in the Korean Conflict Era, Peacetime and Vietnam Era. While stationed in Germany, he met and married his wife, Wilhelmine.

Hugh was a Post Commander at the American Legion post 284 in Colonial Heights. Hugh was an avid reader, world traveler and great storyteller. He and Wilhelmine traveled to Florida for many years during the winter months. He enjoyed golfing and reading his morning paper while sipping his coffee. Hugh will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Hugh is survived by his brother Walter and his wife Ann Marie, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a great friend Staci Hartman.

Condolences may be expressed at his visitation on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, with an American Legion honor service starting at 6:00p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at St Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Hwy, South Chesterfield, VA 23834, with internment at a later date in Lowell MA.
