Ida Mae Hartsoe, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025. Born in Greensville County, she was the daughter of Jesse Brown Powell and Rosa Mae Grizzard. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, her two sons Eddie “Butch” Thrailkill and Gerald “Jerry” Tomlinson. She is survived by her children Yvonne Tompson, Vivian Padgett (Rodger), Wanda Brooks, Harry Thrailkill and Michael Toombs. Grandchildren: Nikki, Rodger Jr., Jacob, Liam, Matthew, Carmen, Daniel, Charlie, Robert, Diana, John, and Apryl. Ida’s family grew to include many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Ida spent most of her life working in the food industry, a career she truly loved. She dedicated many years as a waitress at the Holiday Inn and Steven Kent Restaurant, later continuing her work at 7‑11, and ultimately ending her career as a food server and cashier at Subway. Ida found joy in serving others and cherished the opportunity to interact with everyone she met. She never knew a stranger, and her kindness, warmth, and generous spirit enriched the lives of many. Ida will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petesburg, Virginia 23805. A procession will follow to the cemetery for a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S.
