With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jack Michael Eckerd, who died following a sudden and unexpected illness on Friday, February 27, 2026. Jack was born August 1, 1965, in Petersburg, VA. He was the son of Nancy Brannon Eckerd and the late Don M. Eckerd.
He is survived by his loving mother; two sisters, Michelle Cantaral (Doug) and Cindy Eckerd; Two nephews, Stephen Cantaral and Mathew Cantaral (Kayte); one niece, Jennifer English (RJ); great nephews and great nieces: Colby, Parker & Maddy English and Elsie & Callan Cantaral.
Jack graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 1985 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1989. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the Air National Guard.
Throughout his career, Jack worked in logistics at US Air and later for James River Runners, a courier service. In June 2019, he began working at the Richmond VA Medical Center in Surgical Services, a position he truly loved. He often spoke of his appreciation for his wonderful coworkers and the fulfillment he found in his work there.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
