James Howard Fry Jr, 80, of South Chesterfield passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026. Jim was born in Petersburg, VA on April 18, 1946. He graduated from Matoaca High School in 1965. He worked for almost 20 years at Brown & Williamson. He retired at 62 from Stock Car Products. Jim was a dedicated member of Wood’s United Methodist Church and was a devout Sunday School attendee. He faithfully ushered, turned off all the lights and locked up the church for 34 years. Jim is survived by his wife, Betty Fry, son, Reverend James H. Fry III, daughter-in-law, Amanda Fry, and grandchildren, Grace Fry and Jeremiah Fry. Jim was a loving, loyal, faithful husband of 57 years. Ro was a devoted, supportive dad and father-in-law who was always there and was his son’s best buddy. Pop was loved by his grandchildren and could not have been a better grandpa. He always had memories and jokes to share. He was happy being surrounded by family and being in his home. Jim enjoyed the simple things in life. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Wood’s United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Rd, South Chesterfield, Virginia 23803. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. There will be light refreshments following the interment in the fellowship hall of the church. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
