James David Ice, Sr., 88, of Chester went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 1, 2025. Born in Shepherdstown, West Virginia on September 5, 1936, he was the son of the late Miles Ice and Florence Mauck. He was preceded in death by his son, James David William Ice.
He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 20 years, including service during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Much of his military career was spent at Andrews Air Force Base, where he worked on Air Force One with the same dedication and precision that defined his life.
Following his military service, he began a second career as an engineer with Double Tree Hotels, where he worked for another 20 years before retiring to Nathalie, Virginia. There, he purchased 10 acres of land that became a beloved retreat for hunting, fishing, ATV rides, and countless family memories.
He continued his service to others through the American Legion Post 52, where he was a proud member of the color guard, presenting the flag at small town events and ceremonies. He never missed a chance to shake the hand of a fellow veteran, always honoring their shared bond.
Affectionately known as Pa Pa and Uncle Jim, he was treasured for his gentle heart, kind spirit, and quiet strength. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, loved watching wrestling, and could always be found enjoying a good western.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sally Irene Ice; daughters, Kathie Cicoria and husband, David, Deb Hazel and husband, Dave, Carolyn Ice, Donna D’Alelio and husband, John, Renee Bean and husband, Judge; daughters-in-law, Kathi Ice; 17 beloved grandchildren; many cherished great-grandchildren; brother, Junior Ice; sister, Dorothy Clark; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
