James “Jimmy” Williams, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, husband, Navy veteran, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1958, and was a longtime resident of Colonial Heights, VA.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He carried the strength, dedication, and sense of service he gained through his military years throughout his life.

Jim was a proud tribal member of the Potawatomie Indian Tribe, his name being Notakchegenene, which means “God of Music”.

He faced many challenges during his lifetime, including a long battle with diabetes. Through those difficult times, he continued to hold onto his faith and his love for the Lord. His faith gave him strength, and his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and resting in the presence of God.

Jim had a true love for music. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing country music, and, of course, karaoke. He loved picking up a microphone and singing along to the songs he enjoyed. Whether he was playing guitar, singing country tunes, or taking his turn at karaoke, Jim had a way of making music a part of the moments he shared with others. Those who knew him will surely smile when they remember his voice, his music, and his love of a good song.

He was preceded by his beloved wife of 24 years, Theresa Linder Williams; his daughter, Starla Lynn Williams; his parents, Jerry and Marylyn Williams; and his grandparents, Silas and Opal Williams and John and Rita Vinson.

He will lovingly be remembered by his children, Dawn Raia (Dom), Donna Tillett (Michael), Liz Lands (Alex), Carl Flinn (Megan), and Jimmy Williams, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Dominic, Albert, Steven, Shyanna, Tommy, Amanda, Austin, Vicky, Carl, Jr., and Jimmy, III.; numerous great-grandchildren; his siblings and their families, Shannah Williams (Robert Lee), Tonya Williams (Steven Baum), and Jerry Williams (Melissa); and a host of extended family members and friends. Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Although his Earthly journey was not always easy, Jimmy can now lay down his burdens and rest. We find comfort in believing that he has been reunited with Theresa, Starla, his parents, grandparents, and other loved ones who left before him.

His guitar may now be still, but the song of his life will love on through the people who loved him. And somewhere beyond this life, we can imagine Jimmy singing one more country song, surrounded by those who have been waiting to welcome him home.

Rest peacefully, Jimmy. Your battle is over, your service is complete, and you are finally home with the Lord. Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever in our hearts.
