James Everett Stanifer, 82, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Born June 26, 1941, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Laura P. Stanifer, and was also preceded in death by his stepson, Christopher W. Harbaugh.
James served his country with honor during the Vietnam War, proudly serving in the United States Army for two years.
James pursued a fulfilling career at Honeywell International, where he dedicated many years of hard work as a shift facilitator. In addition to his tenure at Honeywell, James also contributed his expertise to Firestone Fibers in Hopewell, Virginia, where he worked for 17 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Geneva Patton Stanifer; stepdaughter, Wendy M French of Denton, NC; step-grandchildren, Ryan T. Ashley, Brandon J. Harbaugh, Wyatt Short; four step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Glenda S. Moore and husband, Terry, Joyce S. Wallace; three nephews and one niece.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Southside SPCA, PO Box 66, Meherrin, Virginia 23954.
