Jane Ann Markins, 78, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026. Born on November 16, 1947, in Shelbyville, Indiana, Jane lived a life defined by perseverance, compassion, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to her family.

Jane was the daughter of the late Charles C. Spencer and Julia Spencer. She was also preceded in death her beloved husband, William “Bill” Earl Markins, who passed away just 29 days before her; her son, William Lee Markins; and her brothers, Phillip Spencer and Tink Spencer.

Growing up in an orphanage and foster care, Jane learned at an early age the value of resilience, kindness, and hard work. Those experiences shaped the remarkable woman she became and inspired the love and compassion she shared so freely throughout her life.

Jane dedicated more than 40 years of service to Trust Fund Administrator with SunTrust Bank, which became Truist shortly before her retirement. She was respected for her professionalism, integrity, and commitment to helping others throughout her career.

She is survived by her loving children, Regina Baldwin and husband Danny, Sharon Markins, Richard Markins, and Brandon Markins and wife Kelsey. She is also survived by daughters-in-law Denise Markins and Amy Markins.

Jane was a proud and devoted grandmother to Michael Markins and wife Tracy, Matthew Markins, Megan Biggs, Josh Markins and wife Morgan, David Markins and wife Lyndsie, Seth Markins, Chris Markins and wife Jessica, Gunnar Markins, and Lucas Biggs.

She was blessed with many cherished great-grandchildren: Bailey, Colton, Rhett, Callahan, Maisyn, Emersynn, Grady, Caroline, Bowie, and McCoy Markins.

Jane loved to bake and found joy in feeding anyone who walked through the door. No one ever left her home hungry. To her family she was “Mamaw,” but that title extended far beyond blood relatives. Countless friends of grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Mamaw as well, a reflection of the warmth, acceptance, and love she showed to everyone she met. Jane poured patience, kindness, and encouragement into every life she touched. To her, no one was a stranger.

A visitation and memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a small donation to a children’s charitable cause of your choice in Jane’s memory.

Mom, you will be truly missed. You taught us all well. Now you are reunited with Dad, just 29 days after he passed away. Don’t worry – we will carry on the traditions you created and the values you instilled in all of us. Your work here is done. It is time to hang up the apron and rest in peace.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that your legacy of love, generosity, strength, and family will live on for generations to come.
