Mrs. Jean H. Howard, 83, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was born in Wilson, North Carolina, July 19, 1942. She attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee. She then went on to become a Registered Nurse. She began her career in Nursing in hospitals in the 1960s and then moved into Public Health in Petersburg and Prince George in the 1970s. In the early 1980s she transitioned into School Nursing for Chesterfield County where she served as Elementary School Nursing Lead for several years. She retired in 2010 to spend much wanted time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 44 years, Douglas L. Howard, and her sister, Christine Bryan. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Howard and his wife, Sharre Moon of Prince George, Virginia and Jonathan Howard of Colonial Heights, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Brandon Howard (Heather) of Enon, Virginia, Kyle Howard and Kayla Howard (Jimmy Hicks) of Prince George, Virginia, Jessie Moon of Hopewell, Virginia, Jamie Alexander of Bristol, Tennessee, Joshua Howard of Westminster, Colorado, Andrew Howard, Jesse Howard and Alyssa Howard of Prince George, Virginia; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kay Medlin of Wilson, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Phillip Howard of Washington, North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Heights Baptist Church, located at 17201 US-1, South Chesterfield, VA 23834. The funeral service will be conducted at The Heights Baptist Church on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Randall T. Hahn officiating. Entombment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park’s Mausoleum in S Prince George, Virginia. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
