Joan C. Alexy

Joan C. Alexy, 83, of South Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Born in Rockwood, Tennessee on August 13, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Houston Collett and Nellie Massengill Collett. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roger Garrison.

Joan was a longtime member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. She worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco for 12 years as a machine operator.

Joan lived a simple and fulfilling life surrounded by the things she loved most. She enjoyed tending to her garden, spending quiet afternoons on the porch while watching the birds that visited her yard. Joan had a fondness for Bingo and cherished the companionship of her pets. She also enjoyed her time spent with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Dwight S. Alexy; son, Daryl Garrison; daughter, Vicky Garrison; stepchildren, Darlene Nixon, Christine Collier (Randy), and Stephen Alexy (Arlyn); grandchildren, Ashley King (Joe), Adam Walker, Eric Garrison (Ruzen), Zakkery Garrison (Ariel), and Richard Garrison; great-grandchildren, Logan King, Brooks Walker, Leigha Walker, Brecken Garrison, Miles Garrison, and Nova Garrison; siblings, Ray “Sonny” Collett (Gennell), Janie Easter, Joe “Steve” Collett (Debbie), and Susie Parker; and many other extended family members and special friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
