John Alvin Slaughter Jr.

John Alvin Slaughter, Jr. closed his eyes on June 26,2025 and opened them in the presence of his Lord and Savior. He is finally reunited in heaven with his parents, John Alvin Slaughter, Sr. and Mary Drummond Slaughter, three adored wives, Laura Genevieve Rowland Slaughter, Jean Keatts Burian Slaughter, and Carolyn June Davis Slaughter, his son-in-law, Thomas Bernard Traylor, a grandson, Andrew Thomas Traylor, stepson Hank Burian, and granddaughter-in-law Robyn Slaughter. He retired from Allied Signal, where he worked in maintenance for 42 years. John was honored to be a Mason and was a member of Blandford Lodge #3AF&AM, Petersburg Union Royal Arch No. 7, Appomattox Commandry No. 6 Knights Templar, Carl Frank Wood Council Allied Masonic Degrees. John was a past member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans A P Hill Camp. He had been a certified scuba diver and was an avid outdoorsman. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing with his two sons, and target shooting with his grandsons. He leaves behind a grieving family, his sons, John Alvin Slaughter, III, Eric Scott Slaughter, Sr. (Lesa), his daughter, Sharon Slaughter Traylor, stepson Steven Davis (Sarah), and stepdaughters Brenda Burian Racheau and Kathy Colbert, grandchildren, John Alvin Slaughter, IV, James Slaughter, Alex Traylor (Rachael), Eric Scott Slaughter, Jr (Savannah), Emily Slaughter, Harper Davis, Eliza Davis, and Jeana Cox (Nash), great -granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Kendall, Lexi, Ella, Layla, CoraLee, and great-grandson Thomas Benjamin Traylor. As well as his dearly loved cousins. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Powers Memorial Baptist Church 2807 Jackson St, Hopewell, VA 23860 in Dr. Roger Crump officiating. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 3935 S Crater Road Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
