John Thomas Elam Jr., 88, of Midlothian, VA, entered his eternal home with the Lord on January 19, 2026. A former member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church, John was the son of the late John Thomas Elam Sr. and Nelly Houston Elam Davis. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosa S. Elam, and his sisters, Nellie E. Elliott and Linda Faye Jones.
John is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Teresa Elam and Suzanne Manning (Doug), and his grandson, John Douglas Manning.
He dedicated 35 years of service to Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company.
John’s happiest days were often spent on the golf course, where he found both peace and camaraderie. Whether he was working on his swing, walking the fairways with friends, or sharing stories in the clubhouse, the game brought him immense joy. As a longtime member of Ford’s Colony Country Club and Petersburg Country Club, he valued the laughter, competition, and lifelong friendships forged on those greens.
John was also a member of the Freemasons, an organization he held in high regard. He appreciated the sense of brotherhood, tradition, and service the fraternity embodied. He believed in showing kindness, offering help where it was needed, and living with integrity—qualities that reflected both who he was and what the Masonic brotherhood meant to him.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, February 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, located at 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831, at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Affinity Hospice in gratitude for the compassionate care they provided to John.
