John was born in Portsmouth, VA, to Eugene Thompson Sr. and Sandra Thompson Boslego.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2000.

In life, John worked as a Service Manager in the propane industry in which he found immense joy in providing propane and propane accessories. He had a passion for Steelers football. Some would even say that black and yellow ran through his blood. He spent his days enjoying countless vacations with family, giving his wife the world, and bringing joy to anyone around.

Whether you knew him as John, Bulldog, Dad, or G-Pa, he loved everyone the same and just as fiercely. It did not matter if you met him for 15 minutes or 15 years, John would take you in and make you a part of his family. However, nothing in the world would bring him more joy than seeing all his G-Babies happy, running around and “causing chaos.”

In addition to his mother, John is survived by his wife, Tara Thompson; their nine children: Carolyn Clark (Ken), Kenneth Thompson (Jessica), Andrea McCabe, Kaitlyn Hodge (Geoffrey), John Mullenix III (Kayleigh), Odessa McCabe, Makalah Klewer, Nathan Klewer and Jacob McCabe; and seven grandchildren: Janice, Brooklyn, Jaxon, Kaidence, Graysen, Brannon, and Lilliana. He is also survived by his three siblings: Eugene “Bubba” Thompson Jr. (Colleen), Kim Jones, and Regina Thompson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Please join family and friends on March 14, 2026 for John’s “Celebration of Life”. Reception place and time to be announced.
