Joyce George

Joyce Phillips George, age 96, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, died Sunday, July 3, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel Walter George Jr.; parents, Joseph Benjamin Phillips and Ruth Jackson Phillips; and a sister, Jacqueline Phillips Allen.

She is survived by her two sons, David Walter George and Mark Joseph George of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandson, Michael David George and wife, Angel Harper George; two great-granddaughters, Charlotte Avalon and Cailey Joyce George of Colonial Heights, Virginia; grandsons, Edward Walter George and David Walter George Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was raised in Colonial Heights and graduated from Petersburg High School and Mary Washington College. She was a member of the Methodist Wesley Foundation and Victory Chorus. She was also a member of Highland United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years, was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Sunshine Bible Sunday School Class, a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy Petersburg Chapter #155,  where she served as president for seventeen years, a member of the Ladies Memorial Association of Petersburg, president for five years, the Blandford Cemetery Foundation, and the Colonial Heights Historical Society.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the funeral home.
