Joyce Joyner O'Berry

Joyce Joyner Williams O’Berry, 88, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away peacefully early in the morning on Monday, April 24, 2023. Born in Virginia on September 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James R. Joyner and Sallie Bell Harris Joyner. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence A. Williams, Jr.; her second husband, Edward E. O’Berry; four sisters; and two brothers.

Joyce was a charter member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights since the church’s very beginning, and she dedicated her life to serving the Lord and her community. She loved to sing in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. Joyce was well known in her community from working for Ukrops for many years as a cashier. She loved spending time outdoors tending to her yard and flowers, enjoyed cooking, and helping her neighbors. Her unwavering faith and commitment to Christ were evident in every aspect of her life, and she touched the hearts of many with her kind and gentle personality.

She is survived by her children, Clarence “Bebe” A. Williams III (Lisa), Bruce W. Williams, Susan W. Andrews (Andy), and Kim W. Smith (Steve); her grandchildren, Sarah Hardy and her three children, Gaston Andrews (Emily), Casey Pittman (Chris), Ivey Smith, Joanna Earls (Kirk) and their children, Grace, Hope, and Faith, and Jeff Carson and his son, Andrew; great-grandchildren, Reese Pittman, Cora Pittman, Luke Pittman, Clay Pittman, and baby girl Andrews who is expected in August; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road S. Prince George, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, Colonial Heights, Virginia.
