June Elizabeth Hunter, age 95, went home to the Lord on September 16, 2026. She was born on October 18, 1930 in Lynchburg, Virginia and was the wife of the late Wilton “Tink” Gray Hunter Sr. June and Tink were married on September 11, 1948. They grew up together, marrying at 18 and 17, and Papa Tink was the love of her life. She retired from Philip Morris Manufacturing Center in 1993 after twenty-one years of service as a secretary to the engineering manager.

June has joined her deceased daughter, Pamela Ann Hunter Suter Claytor. She was proud of her granddaughter, Allison Gray Suter Rouse, Allison’s husband Brian Rouse, their children, Hannah Gray Rouse and Cooper Douglas Rouse. She also leaves a son, Wilton Gray Hunter Jr., and his wife Diane Strother Hunter, their sons, Travis Scott Hunter, Neil Patrick Hunter, Wilton “Will” Gray Hunter III, and his wife Kristen Jankin Hunter, their son, Arran Gray Hunter.

She was devoted to her brother Gilbert “Gill” Dean Cheatham and loved him dearly, and thought a lot of his wife, Ruth, who is deceased. She thought of Gil’s three children and his grandchildren as her own, Julie Foster, her children Maggie and Libbie, their son William “Bill” Cheatham, his children, Hamilton, Allen, and Colin all from Louisville, Kentucky. Their daughter Cindy Piekiewicz, husband Tom, and their children Grace and Andrew of Atlanta, Georgia.

June was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights since June 1967. One of her favorite events was the annual Church Bazaar. She was also a member of the Rosecrest Garden Club and enjoyed planning the yearly Gala whose profits went towards scholarships. In 1988, she worked on an arrangement for the Virginia Museum Arts and Flowers Show. Her arrangement was featured in the Architectural Digest magazine. An accomplishment she was most proud of.

She enjoyed her “Bonco Group” that was established in the 1990’s. She enjoyed designing, decorating, and having her home built on Sandy Ford Road. June looked forward to entertaining her friends and family there for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Garden Club, and her Bonco Group. She had written, “the last thing I will never give up is my hair appointments and my Garden Club meetings.”

June and Tink loved their family life. Every Sunday afternoon, after Church, June would fix a wonderful meal to include her famous sourdough rolls. Tink would fix multiple loaves of sourdough bread throughout the year to share with family and church members, June was quick to give financial advice to anyone who would listen. June was called by many names, June, Mom, Memaw, and Speaker of the House at church. She never had a problem speaking her mind. Once you met her, you would never forget her. She loved deeply and always helped anyone in need. If she couldn’t help you, she would find someone who could. June was a terrible back seat driver and had no sense of direction. There is always a “June story” to be told with some kind of laughter. Years to come, her stories will be carried on by her son Gray, her brother, her grandchildren, and her nieces and nephew.

The family will welcome friends on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3701 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Road, Chester, Virginia 23831.
